Liverpool is linked with towns and cities across the UK by rail. London is just over two and a half hours from Liverpool, while Birmingham is two hours away, and Manchester just half an hour. Lime Street station provides national and local rail links; the Merseytravel network also provides extensive rail connections between Liverpool and Merseyside's towns, suburbs and beaches.
Special group discounts are available from most rail companies.
Merseyside lies on the borders of England and Wales, and can also be reached easily from southern England, northern England and Scotland by road. The M56, M58 and M62 motorways connect Liverpool with the M6, which runs south to north between Birmingham and the Scottish borders. Liverpool is approximately 45 minutes' drive from Chester, Manchester and North Wales; and around an hour from Blackpool, the Lake District, the Yorkshire Moors and the Peak District National Park. London is just over four hours' drive away.
Express coach connections to Liverpool are available from most towns and cities in Britain. Half hourly services run from Manchester, hourly services run from York, and buses from both London and Birmingham run every two hours. An express bus to Manchester Airport also takes around 50 minutes.
