There is plenty of fine dining and good food to be had in Liverpool, and the city is spreading the word via Taste Liverpool, an initiative aimed at promoting food tourism to the region.

Taste Liverpool is a quality scheme that recognises restaurants across Liverpool and Liverpool City Region which consistently provide good food and a high quality dining experience.

Trained national assessors make a mystery visit to the restaurant and report on a wide variety of areas, from cleanliness to level of service and, of course, the food itself. Each participating restaurant receives a written Taste Liverpool report and an overall score.

Liverpool’s top rated Taste Liverpool restaurants include The London Carriage Works on Hope Street, a leading Liverpool eaterie with an emphasis firmly on local food, and 60 Hope Street just down the road, a fine dining establishment serving meals made from the freshest in-season ingredients.

Liverpool’s Quality Assured Taste Liverpool restaurants include Spire Restaurant in Allerton (also named in the Good Food Guide Northwest as 2011 Restaurant of the Year) and Kemp’s Bistro beneath the beautiful Isla Gladstone conservatory in Stanley Park. In Albert Dock you can find the Maritime Dining Rooms at the Merseyside Maritime Museum and What’s Cooking. The Mayflower (Chinese) and Christakis Greek Taverna, which has been serving up good Greek food for the past 28 years in a listed Victorian building, add an international flavour. On the Wirral don’t miss the excellent Capitol Chinese restaurant in Birkenhead.
