Travelling to a new destination for the first time can sometimes leave you a little apprehensive. Will I be able to get a taxi from the airport to the hotel? How much should I expect to pay for dinner? My iPhone has gone crazy – where I can get some help?!

Currency

The national currency is Great British Pounds (£) and almost every venue accepts Visa and MasterCard payment.

There are a number of Bureau de Change outlets in Liverpool City Region so it’s really easy to change your currency on arrival.

Liverpool John Lennon Airport
There are two Bureau de Change desks at Liverpool John Lennon Airport, both before and after the security checkpoints.

The Post Office
There are foreign currency facilities at many of Post Office branches across the destination. City centre branches in Liverpool ONE, Leece Street and India Buildings on Water Street all offer this service.

Marks & Spencer, Church Street
Liverpool’s large Marks & Spencer store on Church Street offers a Bureau de Change service for up to 40 currencies.

Visas

Before planning your visit to Liverpool City Region, we recommend you check whether you require a visa to enter the United Kingdom. The easiest way is to complete a simple online questionnaire from the UK Border Agency.

• If you are a European Economic Area (EEA) or Swiss national, generally you do not require a visa to visit the UK.

• United States nationals are able to visit the UK without a visa for a maximum of 6 months, however several conditions apply.

• We recommend you visit www.ukvisas.gov.uk before you travel.


Dress Code

After a busy day at conference, it’s nice to relax and unwind in one of the destinations many bars and restaurants. Liverpool’s nightlife is legendary, offering the widest range of venues from traditional pubs and relaxed bistros to buzzing cocktails bars and the finest dining.

Liverpool City Region is a relaxed and welcoming destination with few establishments insistent on a dress code. Some of the more exclusive venues will not allow trainers, sportswear or scruffy jeans so generally a good rule of thumb is ‘smart casual’.

Liverpool is an image conscious city. Its inhabitants like to look good, wear the very latest labels and are never knowingly underdressed. Shopping is almost a sport here and you are certainly not spoilt for choice. Liverpool ONE offers over 160 high street stores and boutiques, whilst the Metquarter and Cavern Walks are great for designer brands such as Vivienne Westwood, Armani, Hugo Boss and Kurt Geiger.
